I binged all of Hare-kon last night and I just gotta say: it’s a refreshing approach to harems in a way that spoke to me on a personal level. The harem is from a female perspective in the middle of it all and despite being an idiot, her naïveté makes sense in this crazy situation and is explained in a realistic and fantastic pace that feels organic.
TRIGGER WARNING: This manga is complicated and there are technically rape scenes in the beginning. However, the visuals given make it self-aware and paint the characters in such a way that set a harsher tone for the rest of the series — which makes it more complicated rather than troublesome (not saying I condone rape, but this series is super into BDSM and the lines that are crossed are razor thin at first). I also warn that issues such as abortion, polygamy, PTSD, and a few other social issues are explored in intimate detail in this series. I enjoyed the social commentary because these issues weren’t just plot points, but were intimate details that were defining events for these characters much in the same way that trauma affects us all and calls for us to address the trauma head first.
